New additions to the phone include:

No price has been officially shown but we can only guess as the original myTouch 3G went for $149 with a 2 year contract. Currently, the new myTouch comes with Android 1.6 but will probably be upgraded to Android 2.1 within the new couple of months, like many other devices. Some unboxing pics can be found here. Anyone planning on monitoring the T-Mobile site all day to see when they go on sale live? We will keep you updated when we find the new myTouch 3G for sale live from T-Mobile’s site.

Nexus One ETF Lowered To $150

Monday, February 8th, 2010

google-nexus-oneRemember when we learned that Google’s Nexus One ETF (technically Equipment Recovery Fee) was not only a whopping $350 but also was imposed in ADDITION to T-Mobile’s ETF – and then we threw a hissy fit? Well the FCC promptly started an investigation and it looks like Google is either admitting they overdid it or doing some pre-emptive cost maneuvering – the WSJ is reporting they lowered the ETF from $350 to $150.

It’s true, it’s true… check out the new deets at “Terms of Sale for Nexus Device“:

I thought the $350 pricetag was outrageous but that wasn’t even my main complaint. I don’t understand why both T-Mobile AND Google are forcing these fees for cancellation/return. They’re systems/inventory/shipping is obviously integrated in some way if you’re able to purchase a T-Mobile contract through Google’s website, right? Do the customer a favor and condense those 2 separate ETF fees into one and choose either T-Mobile or Google to institute it.

The $150 is much more reasonable and I can appreciate the reason for its existence… but I think we’ve got a long way to go in terms of transparency and consumer education with these fees. At least this is a start.

T-Mobile Q1 Roadmap Probably Fake, Features CLIQ XT

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Look at the below leaked T-Mobile 1st Quarter Roadmap and notice that Sony Ericsson is misspelled as “Sony Ericcson” while Motorola is referred to as MOT instead of the typical MOTO. Simple mistaked in an official document or typos by a stupid and careless photoshop prankster?

tmoq1

Considering the MyTouch 1.2 with 3.5mm headset jack isn’t listed, it isn’t looking good, but I figured I would pass this along just in case. The interesting thing on this slide is the Motorola CLIQ XT which seems to be a non-keyboard version of the CLIQ. Probably fake but interesting nonetheless.

I was also expecting a bit more Android from T-MO between now and the end of March but… we’ll see. What do you think: real or fake? Or maybe we should just ask if anyone actually thinks this is real?

T-Mobile MyTouch 2: New Name For HTC Espresso?

Monday, February 8th, 2010

This image has no alt text

t-mobile-mytouch-2The folks at T-Mobile might be looking to extend the MyTouch brand they’ve built thus far as TMO Today tipsters are saying the rumored HTC Espresso will launch with the name T-Mobile MyTouch 2.

First came the MyTouch 3G, then the MyTouch 3G Fender Edition and now we’re rumored to have the MyTouch 3G 1.2 and the MyTouch 2. That whole “3G” thing makes it sound like the MyTouch 2 is a previous version in some ways… it just sounds weird. But we get the point.

The phone is essentially the HTC Hero with an added slideout QWERTY keyboard and I have to say, I think that keyboard looks delicious. Four rows, too! It doesn’t have any hardware improvements compared to the Hero but that’s a very capable phone for the price, is it not? I can see a lot of people like this.

Maybe they should call it the T-Mobile MyType 3G? I first that.

T-Mobile Pushes Swype On myTouch 1.2

Monday, February 8th, 2010

News for myTouch 1.2 users, check the area inside the square in the middle of the screen shot. It states that the myTouch 1.2, which is the same as the myTouch 3G with 3.5mm Jack, will have the new Swype text input method. This will be the first touchscreen T-Mobile device ever to feature an alternative text input method.

2010-02-06 19.38.54 (1)

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Swype, it’s a text input method where you simply swipe your finger across the letters on the keyboard to spell out your text. Here is a brief video demo of Swype.

Anyone use the Swype keyboard before? I have tried it once before and found it a little difficult but I’m sure with practice it gets easier. Any of you a fan?

Motorola Zeppelin Will Dock Next Month as Cliq XT

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

The Motorola handset we’ve recently been reporting on, the Zeppelin, will be arriving next month on T-Mobile.  A leaked T-Mobile roadmap that covers the next few months shows the Zeppelin launching March10th with the new name of Cliq XT.

Everything we’ve seen lately indicates the phone is virtually identical to the Cliq, save for the physical keyboard.  While it’s likely to arrive with Android 1.5 under the hood, Motorola probably readying the same 2.1 update they’ll be pushing out to the Cliq.  We don’t know of any prices yet, but we’re pretty sure it will be in the same $180-$200 ball park that most of T-Mobile’s lineup of Android phones – at least initially. We’ve seen pictures of this phone in both black and titanium, so it’s likely the Cliq and Cliq XT will share the same colors.

The rumored/expected specs include:

  • 3.1- inch touch screen HVGA (480×320)
  • 5 megapixel camera with autofocus
  • Qualcomm MSM7201 528 MHz processor
  • 512 MB flash ROM, 256 MB RAM
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g, GPS, Bluetooth

T-Mobile myTouch 1.2 Featuring Swype?

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

In just a few short days, T-Mobile is expected to release the updated version of their myTouch 3G handset. Among the notable changes in design are a 3.5mm headphone jack and more memory.  A leaked internal screenshot for T-Mobile indicates a software enhancement will be joining the party too.

The folks over at TmoToday have a screenshot shows the myTouch 3G with 3.5mm headphone  jack (catchy title) will also offer the unique soft keyboard, Swype.  For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, Swype works by dragging your finger from letter to letter, rather than pecking them.  It’s rather unconventional, but we hear it’s pretty awesome. We’re not sure what kind of learning curve it has, however, it appears it could be a preferred way of typing.

It’s interesting to see something like this being bundled with a handset, but it does help differentiate it from other Android phones.  At least out of the box. Swype also comes preloaded on the Samsung Omnia II.

Fun Fact: Swype was founded by the same guy (Cliff Kushler) who invented T9 texting.

Thanks for the heads up, Jim!
