Monday, February 8th, 2010

rogers-htc-dreamHTC Dream users have been reporting that those who have not updated to the most recent mandatory upgrade have had their phone services cut off. Apparently, those with the old OS attempting to make a call are automatically rerouted to Rogers Customer Service and asked to apply the update. Once applied and updated, Rogers Customer Service reps are reporting that voice service will be re-activated but data can take up to 24-hours.

When Rogers sent out the 911 software fix stated it was mandatory fix and were instructed to get the update via http://www.rogers.com/dreamsoftwareupdate. Have any of our Rogers readers who have a Dream had any of these issues?

The guys at Engadget have done a pretty darn good snooping job through which they’ve figured out that the Dell Mini 5 has passed the FCC with the bands needed for AT&T, Rogers, Bell, and Telus 3G. This wasn’t an open and shut case of finding Dell’s paperwork, this time it was a little bit more tricky.

The Dell Mini 5 was rumored to be manufactured by a company called Qisda. Well above left you’ve got a filing from Qisda that comes with… a Dell logo! And on the right you’ve got a picture of what is known to be the Dell Mini 5 sporting what looks to be the exact same thing.

Nice work, Watson!

LG Eve Will Rock Old Skool 1.6 In The Spring.

LG has announced via Twitter, that owners who have the Eve will be getting an OS update this Spring. Unfortunately for Roger’s customers, the update appears to be only through LG’s and Rogers’ sites instead of OTA. So for the rest of us who will hopefully get a 2.1 update in the Spring, our Canadian friends will still be rockin’ stone age versions of the OS.

Any of you Rogers’ customers a little peeved about this “update”? I know I definitely would be if the rest of the world was rocking 2.1 and I had 1.6.

Canadian LG Eve to Make the Jump to Android 1.6

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

According to various sources, including LG Canada themselves, the LG Eve will be receiving an upgrade to Android version 1.6. It is only so long before version 1.5(Cupcake) is no longer on any device which really goes to prove how quickly Android is progressing.

Unfortunately this update will not be an OTA(Over-the-air) update, but rather like HTC Dream and Magic customers had to recently do, LG Eve owners will have to acquire the update from the Rogers website. LG has given a rough estimate that it will be released sometime this Spring. Looks like most Rogers Android owners (ie Dream, Magic) now have an update to look forward to in the upcoming months.

    Some Strings Attached…
It’s true, Rogers has officially announced that all Canadian HTC Dream owners can upgrade to the HTC Magic free of charge. For background information on this story, please …
