Alcatel’s OT-980 is Reminiscent of Palm Pre

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Take the form factor of the Palm Pre and slide in the vastly superior Android OS – what do you get? Alcatel’s OT-980 handset, that’s what. Take a look at the video below of the smart phone and you’ll see what happens when you combine that slide-up design of the Palm with our favorite mobile operating system.  While the specs aren’t anywhere near spectacular, that’s likely the point.  The word is that this phone is aiming for entry-level and cost conscious buyers with price point at or below what HTC’s Tattoo goes for – about $300 before carrier subsidy.

According to FrAndroid, the OT-980 will land on Orange at some point within the first half of the year.  Expect more details, perhaps something official, at Mobile World Congress in the coming weeks.

Slightly Different Looking Zeppelin Image Arrives

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

If you’ve been coming to AndroidGuys lately, you’ll note that we’ve covered a phone here called the Motorola Zeppelin.  Also known as the XT800, this handset is now official from Motorola with 3.7″ WVGA display, 5 megapixel camera, 720p HD video, and 550 MHz processor.

Imagine our confusion when a picture of another handset from Motorola, going by the name of Zeppelin, arrived on Engadget Mobile today.   According to mobil.cz (translated), the phone pictured above is in fact one that should making its debut at Mobile World Congress.  The rumored specs include , touch-sensitive buttons, 5 megapixel camera, 3.2-inch HVGA touch screen, and MOTOBLUR.

We’re not sure what to make of the naming situation, but we still like the looks and specs of this phone either way.  TmoNews believes that this new Zeppelin is the T-Mobile handset rumored for March 10th, but our money is on the Motoroi.  Still, both would make welcome additions to the lineup of smart phones.
