LG Eve Will Rock Old Skool 1.6 In The Spring.

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

LG has announced via Twitter, that owners who have the Eve will be getting an OS update this Spring. Unfortunately for Roger’s customers, the update appears to be only through LG’s and Rogers’ sites instead of OTA. So for the rest of us who will hopefully get a 2.1 update in the Spring, our Canadian friends will still be rockin’ stone age versions of the OS.

Any of you Rogers’ customers a little peeved about this “update”? I know I definitely would be if the rest of the world was rocking 2.1 and I had 1.6.

LG Android Duo Headed To Verizon

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Verizon looks poised to go on an Android tear – they’ve already got the Droid and Droid Eris with the Devour on the way, and a little birdie is claiming that 2 LG Android Phones will launch on Big Red before April!

Take this as rumor of supreme form (salt!), but it wouldn’t be the most surprising move ever made. Apparently one of the phones will be a touchscreen similar to the Droid Eris while the other will sport an LG enV form factor. Can I tell you that would make me outrageously excited if Verizon brought the LG enV touch with Android attached.

(Note the picture above is NOT an Android Phone – it is the existing LG enV Touch currently available on Verizon Wireless. Pictured here for reference purposes)

It is just as likely the “enV” comparison only means it will have a full QWERTY keyboard and we’re getting way ahead of ourselves anyways… this is all just rumorization at this point in time. Do with it what you will!

Canadian LG Eve to Make the Jump to Android 1.6

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

According to various sources, including LG Canada themselves, the LG Eve will be receiving an upgrade to Android version 1.6. It is only so long before version 1.5(Cupcake) is no longer on any device which really goes to prove how quickly Android is progressing.

Unfortunately this update will not be an OTA(Over-the-air) update, but rather like HTC Dream and Magic customers had to recently do, LG Eve owners will have to acquire the update from the Rogers website. LG has given a rough estimate that it will be released sometime this Spring. Looks like most Rogers Android owners (ie Dream, Magic) now have an update to look forward to in the upcoming months.

It’s true, Rogers has officially announced that all Canadian HTC Dream owners can upgrade to the HTC Magic free of charge. For background information on this story, please …

Rumor: A Pair of LG Handsets on Deck for Verizon

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

One handset manufacturer who has been relatively silent here in the US is LG.  Of all of the founding members of the Open Handset Alliance, their Android plans have remained the most secretive.  Although we’ve yet to see to see a handset here in the states, that may be changing soon.

According to AndroidRelease,  LG is prepping two handsets for Verizon over the next few months.  Their source says that one device feature a physical QWERTY keyboard while the other will be a touch only unit a la Droid Eris.  So far, the only handsets we’ve seen out of LG have been slideout QWERTY models like the GW620.  Hopefully, LG and/or Verizon make some official announcement at Mobile World Congress.

As for Android Cupcake? That wasn’t the dessert we were hoping for… but hopefully the LG Bakery will cook up an OTA update shortly after release.
